Letter from the President & Outgoing Chairman of the Board
January 1, 2005
Dear Friends:
Our first full year, 2004, was a wonderful year for MINT: Mental Health Initiative, A Foundation for Mental Health. We held our first 5K Run/Walk event in Spring and with the help of very generous donations, we were able to fund our first research grants, three in all, this Fall. Our other two events, the cocktail receptions so generously donated by Camille & Chris Romita and Joan & Val Taubner, were wonderful opportunities for our Board, Committee members, donors, friends and family to spread the word and share our enthusiasm about funding mental health research.
MINT is entirely run by volunteers. We are fortunate to have such talented and generous friends volunteering their time and expertise, donating money, participating in events and encouraging us in our mission. It is a testament to their recognition that mental health is so important, and mental health research in such need of funding. We are grateful to each person who has participated in our foundation so enthusiastically.
Mental health disorders impact millions of Americans each year. Over a lifetime, most likely everyone is impacted individually or through family. Mental health research is truly under-funded, both at the governmental and at the private foundation levels. MINT is dedicated to funding mental health research and to educating the public about mental health disorders and the maintenance of good mental health. We look forward to continuing to grow so that we can fund more research projects and bigger research projects. There is much to be done to further our knowledge of prevention and cure of mental health disorders. With sustained effort and continued support, scientists can learn so much and help so many. Happy New Year and good mental health to all!
Sincerely,
Catherine W. Taubner, Ph.D.
President
