Letter from the President
January 7, 2006
Dear Friends:
2005 was another terrific year for MINT: Mental Health Initiative, A Foundation for Mental Health. Our second annual 5K Run/Walk event was held at New York Botanical Garden in Bronx, New York, a truly beautiful and prestigious spot. With the generous continued support of donors, particularly the ever generous Jean & Andy Formato, we were able to fund another research grant, extending our reach to children’s mental health. Our Research Award Cocktail party in the fall at the home of Rich & Maryann Ellenbogen was another stellar opportunity to honor our awardees, celebrate the work of our many volunteers, thank our donors and continue to publicize the need to fund mental health research and our commitment to do so. With this cocktail party, we raised enough money from our wonderful donors to fund our next research award!
Castle Oil and Ball Chain Manufacturing have made generous commitments to donating to the foundation, and each has already paid installments on these commitments. In combination with the Formato’s support, the generosity of these three sources is spurring us to plan and launch a Capital Campaign in the coming year. We look forward to the enthusiasm that this campaign will generate, and see it as a natural progression in the maturity of this foundation.
This past year the Board was honored to have a new Chairman of the Board, Michael N. Romita, who has ably led us and will continue to in the new year. We are also grateful for the addition of three talented and accomplished friends to the Board of Directors: Kathy Biggs, Ph.D., Rich Ellenbogen and Melissa Ronan. And we are continuingly grateful for the dedication and hard work of all the directors who serve on our Board.
Finally, and there never seem words enough for thanks, we are so appreciative of the generosity of spirit and time shown by the volunteers who populate the various committees and who labor during and between committee meetings to do the work of the foundation. Each committee member’s volunteerism is a tribute to his or her kind spirit and a tribute to his or her acknowledgement that mental health issues are vitally important. Thank you all for sharing in the mission and vision of this foundation!
The best of the New Year to you and your families!
Sincerely,
Catherine W. Taubner, Ph.D.
President
